Vista Ranch and Cellars

This was our first experience staying at a Harvest Hosts property, and we loved it.

We actually live only 45 minutes from here, but we’d both had such a crazy week at work that we just wanted to get out of the house for a night. I called ahead and they were happy to accommodate us at short notice, so we hooked up the trailer, threw some supermarket sushi into the fridge and hit the road.

The wines here are great, particularly the Big Trees Red, which is a very nice full bodied blend. We bought half a case of various wines, as well as some other goodies from their gift shop. We visited during November when the pumpkin patch and cornfield maze was in full swing.

The campground will hold four RV’s with water and electric (no sewer), which was a very nice surprise. There is a freight train that passes by quite regularly sounding it’s horn, but it doesn’t run all night and if anything, it just adds to the atmosphere.

On the night we visited, their was a private party for a Young Farmers of America group. (I’m sure I have the name wrong, but it was something like that). Anyway, the owner invited us to join in and we danced under the stars to a live country band. I’m not usually a country music person, but it’s hard not be sucked in when you’re in such good company, with good wine and great atmosphere.

This winery and Harvest Host campground is great and I would highly recommend it to anyone passing through California’s Central Valley.
