With a weeks notice, the Vines RV Resort in Paso Robles was able to accommodate us for a two night stay (Friday / Saturday ) in March for the local Zinfest weekend. We weren’t actually intending to stay during the Zinfest, we just wanted to get out of town for a few days and it happened to coincide with the festival weekend.
We also had a wine dinner at Eberle Winery, in their wine cave on Friday night, which was excellent. (Full review coming soon)
The campground itself was very clean, well maintained, with plenty of nice amenities. Two heated swimming pools, a hot tub, several lounge areas, a nice camp store and a public barbecue area – not that we needed it, since we brought our trusty portable fire pit and cast iron skillet along with us.
The restrooms and showers were very clean, spacious and well maintained. But again, we didn’t really use them because we have these facilities in our RV. Yes, our shower is absolutely tiny but why have it if you aren’t going to use it, right?
The WiFi was free, but extremely slow and was barely good enough to check email with. In fact, the registration paperwork explicitly said that it wasn’t designed for gaming or streaming, but I’m not convinced anyone would “design” a slow system on purpose when they could just claim it was supposed to be that way after they ran out of bandwidth for the whole park… Luckily Verizon seemed to have a great signal, so we just used our cell phone data plan instead.
The only real downside to this park was the road noise from the adjacent Highway 101. We were parked right next to the freeway and it was very noisy all night long. Perhaps if you own a larger, more luxurious camper you might have better sound insulation, but for us it was just too noisy. It was hard to relax around the campfire in the evening, because it was difficult to hold a conversation with the freeway only 40 feet away. As you can see in the picture below, that semi-truck in the background is heading north on Highway 101 at 65+ mph.
Ironically, no generators are allowed in the park at all, presumably because of the noise.
