{"id":80,"date":"2018-08-14T04:07:31","date_gmt":"2018-08-14T04:07:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/openfirecamping.wordpress.com\/?p=80"},"modified":"2026-05-18T11:14:03","modified_gmt":"2026-05-18T18:14:03","slug":"steak-and-lobster","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/openfirecamping.com\/?p=80","title":{"rendered":"Steak and Lobster"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Classic surf &#8216;n turf dish, cooked in a cast iron skillet during our recent trip to <a href=\"https:\/\/highwaywestvacations.com\/properties\/flyingflags\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Flying Flags RV Resort<\/a> near Solvang, CA.<\/p>\n<p>My wife has been badgering me for some lobster, so here it is. And it was actually pretty awesome.<\/p>\n<h2>Ingredients<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>1 x fresh lobster tail (we split one between us, but you could easily do one each I suppose)<\/li>\n<li>2 x sirloin steaks<\/li>\n<li>Fresh Garlic<\/li>\n<li>Garlic and pepper seasoning or rub<\/li>\n<li>Butter<\/li>\n<li>Fresh sliced mushrooms<\/li>\n<li>Onions<\/li>\n<li>Fresh asparagus<\/li>\n<li>Lemon<\/li>\n<li>Couscous or rice pilaf<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Method<\/h2>\n<p>Season the steaks on both sides with the garlic and pepper seasoning.<\/p>\n<p>Heat the skillet and add a good size knob of butter. When it&#8217;s sizzling, add the steaks and let them sit for a couple of minutes before turning.<\/p>\n<p>Slice the asparagus into 3&#8243;-4&#8243; lengths and heat in an additional pan with some butter or olive oil.<\/p>\n<p>Add the onions to the steak and lobster skillet and and let them cook off to one side for a minute or two.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bhg.com\/recipes\/fish\/basics\/how-to-butterfly-lobster-tail\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Butterfly the lobster tail<\/a>. Add some freshly chopped garlic to the sizzling butter and add then place the lobster tail meat-side down in the garlic and butter.<\/p>\n<p>After a couple of minutes, turn the lobster tail on its back and let it sit for another couple of minutes. Add the mushrooms and stir to coat with butter.<\/p>\n<p>Do not overcook the lobster! As soon as the steaks are done to your liking and and the lobster has been cooked for a couple of minutes each side, remove from the heat and serve.
